These are the tasks that both require our immediate attention and contribute to the achievement of our long-term goals.

The important and urgent tasks are most often those :

  • Which require immediate or very rapid decision, attention and/or intervention. The time scale is different depending on the nature of the project and the task;

  • Have consequences on the overall goal or mission;

  • Can delay or block the progress of the project;

  • Which allow an urgent problem (need, crisis, conflict, …) to be solved.

Procrastination can lead to the postponement of non-urgent or even unimportant tasks in this box. Postponing small tasks to the next day often leads to having to deal with them as a priority a little later.

With good planning, many tasks that belong to quadrant 1 can therefore be eliminated.
