About

Why BA Toolkit exists.

Knowing that a technique exists is not the same as knowing how to use it. BA Toolkit was born from that observation.

There are fifty techniques in the core Business Analysis guide alone. Even after twenty years in this job, nobody knows them all — and knowing the name of a technique says nothing about when it applies, nor about how to run it with your stakeholders, your deadline and Thursday's meeting.

That is the step BA Toolkit takes on, and nothing else. The standard says what to do. BA Toolkit shows how.

In practice: one card per technique for the workshop, one eBook per technique to go deep, micro-learnings for teams. The same content, three depths, depending on the time you have.

What is inside

The BADASS deck

54 cards on the core techniques — the ones used most often. BADASS: Business Analysis: Design Aligned Strategy for Success.

The eBooks

One eBook per technique, in five languages. A worked case carried through to the numbers, not to the intention.

The micro-learnings

For teams, with the tracking and reporting that companies ask for.

The Business Analyst profession

The BABOK® defines it as « the practice of enabling change in an enterprise by defining needs and recommending solutions ». In other words: understand in depth how an organisation works, then propose what will move it forward.

The standard adds that a BA is « any person who performs business analysis, whatever their job title ». Systems analyst, requirements analyst, process analyst, product owner, product manager — and also the project manager, the developer or the tester, as soon as they do the work.

That is why these tools are not reserved for BAs. If you do the work, they are for you.

What it rests on

You do not need to know the BABOK® to use these tools. But it is worth knowing what they rest on.

The BABOK® Guide and its fifty techniques form the backbone of the collection. It is the world reference for Business Analysis, published by the IIBA — the International Institute of Business Analysis, the non-profit association that has structured the profession since 2003, runs the community and awards the internationally recognised certifications.

Around the core guide, the IIBA publishes a whole body of work with its own techniques: the Agile Extension, the Guide to Business Data Analytics, the Guide to Product Ownership Analysis, the Cybersecurity specialisation.

And beyond that, there is what a project uses every day without any standard naming it: the Deming cycle, the Eisenhower matrix, MoSCoW… the list is not exhaustive, and that is deliberate.

Every piece of content is created by a Business Analyst certified CBAP®, the most demanding IIBA certification. Every technique carries its number and its knowledge area, so you can find the source when you need it.

BA Toolkit is neither affiliated with nor sponsored by the IIBA. We rely on its standard, we cite it, we respect it.

Who creates the content

Founder · CBAP®

Nadège Faralli

Twenty-five years of consulting, CBAP® certified — the most demanding IIBA certification. I founded CreativMinds in Nyon, and I created this content because I was looking for the tool I did not have: the one that carries the rigour of the standard all the way to the meeting table, on the day a decision has to be made.
